Succulent terrarium in a glass bowl seen from above

Help & answers

Frequently asked questions

Everything about building, keeping, and ordering a living world under glass.

The basics

What is a bioactive terrarium?

A small, living ecosystem in glass. A tiny cleanup crew of springtails and isopods breaks down waste and mould, so once it finds its balance it largely looks after itself. No scrubbing required.

Do I need any experience?

None at all. Our kits are made for first timers, and every one comes with an illustrated, step by step guide plus a link to a full build video.

Does it really keep itself?

Largely, yes. Once the cleanup crew is established it consumes waste and mould, so you mostly just enjoy it. A quick wipe of the glass now and then is all most setups ask for.

What is actually in a kit?

The glass vessel, the right layered substrate, hardscape, beginner friendly plants and moss, and a clear illustrated guide. You bring a little water and a little patience.

Ordering & delivery

Where do you ship?

We are UK based and ship worldwide. The site automatically shows the right range for your region, and you can change it any time using the flag selector in the footer. Smaller pieces ship everywhere, and our glass tanks ship from local stock where available for fast, affordable delivery.

How much is shipping, and how long does it take?

Shipping is free. UK orders typically arrive within a few working days. International delivery times vary by item and are always shown before you pay.

How can I pay?

All major debit and credit cards, handled securely by our payment provider, as well as PayPal.

What if I change my mind?

Every order is covered by a 30 day guarantee. If something is not right, email us and we will make it good.

Caring for your terrarium

How often do I water it?

A sealed terrarium recycles its own moisture, so it can go weeks between waterings. Your guide explains exactly what to look for, and you can read more in our care notes.

Where should I put it?

Somewhere with bright, indirect light, away from direct sun and radiators. Our guide on light and placement walks through finding the perfect spot.

Do you ship live animals?

We don’t. Live isopods and springtails do not travel well, so your guide shows exactly which to use and where to source them locally so they arrive healthy. A live culture add on is coming soon.
